Amma Bolga Market Basket with Natural Leather Handle

These Bolga Market baskets are handcrafted in the farming villages of the Bolgatanga region in northern Ghana and are perhaps the best-known of all African baskets. This design is perfect for carrying by hand or using around the home for organizing toys or blankets. It can also serve as a beach basket or a travel tote in your car. 

If the basket loses its shape, simply submerge it in water and reshape it as needed. You can trim off any stray grass with scissors.

**Unpacking and Care Instructions**

When you receive your Bolga basket, it may be slightly flattened and out of shape to reduce shipping costs. To reshape your basket, start by popping out the inside. Then, submerge the basket in warm water, such as in a bathtub or deep sink. Be sure to rotate it to thoroughly wet the entire surface. This will make the basket pliable. (It's ok to get the leather handle wet too.) 

After soaking, remove the basket and let the water drain. Place it on a flat surface to shape it. Begin by forming the rim into a circle, then shape the handle. Press out any bumps by patting and pushing. Once you achieve your desired shape, press the basket down on the flat surface to flatten the bottom so that it sits upright. This entire process takes just a few minutes. Allow the basket to dry completely before using it. 

You can repeat this shaping process periodically to reshape, hydrate, or clean your basket, ensuring it lasts for years!
